Artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and other gastroenterology technology developments are shifting the way gastroenterologists perform procedures. Using AI during colonoscopies, for instance, is decreasing adenoma miss rates, according to a new study. In the study, AI-assisted colonoscopies are seeing an adenoma miss rate of 15.5 percent, compared to 32.4 percent with a standard colonoscopy.
Another study found that patients who received VR video education before a colonoscopy had better bowel preparation, higher polyp and adenoma detection rates, and improved compliance and satisfaction. The advancement of VR-based endoscopy simulators is also becoming the standard when beginning endoscopic training. It offers various benefits, including learning in a low-stakes environment, improving patient safety, and optimizing valuable endoscopy time.
Driven by this growth, the gastroenterology market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.80 percent to reach $79.01 billion by 2028.
